hey! we are on vacation:)

Hi, everyone:) Actually, we are BACK from vacation, but still on vacation:) Jason & I are on vacation from Tuesday, the 22nd through Monday, the 28th:) We left Tuesday morning for Mackinac City:) It was a long ride and there wasn't much to look at, but it was so worth the trip:) After crossing the bridge (Lexie's first time!!), we went straight to Fort Michilimackinac where Brett had gone on his field trip last month:) It was nice having our very own tour guide & nice to know he was paying attention on his field trip:) We took TONS of pics everywhere:) At the Fort, we got the family heritage package for $65 that got us into all 4 of the sites: Colonial Michilimackinac, Fort Mackinac, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, and Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park:) It saved us quite a bit of money to get the package:)

Anyway, after leaving the Fort, we went to Burger King in Mackinac City for a little snack before heading to Mackinac Island:) We got to take the Ferry across for about 16 minutes:) We rode on the top on the way out, but it was kinda cold and Brett didn't like it very much, so he asked me if I would ride below with him on the way back:) Of course, I did:) It was much less windy down there:) Lexie and Jason rode on the top, though:) Anyway, we really weren't sure where to go on the island. We got there around 4:50. So once we got to the street, we started walking to the left (which we later discovered was the WRONG way:( ) Anyway, it was gorgeous:) We walked a lot and we finally found our way to the Fort which closed at 6 p.m. Yep, we got there about 3 mins before that:( So we didn't get to go in:( We were pretty bummed:( So, we walked back down to the main street and checked out the shops. We had to pick up some fudge for Jason's mom and we decided to get hoodies for the kids. I misunderstood the price and thought it was $19.99 each, but that was without the screenprinting:( so $70 later, they have very cute hoodies - thankfully they are size adult small, so they will fit them for a while:) I will post pics:) We sampled some of the fudge and were glad we didn't decide to purchase any since it wasn't the best Jason or I had ever tasted. The kids & I think my fudge is better:) and it's much cheaper - they wanted $14.95/lb!!!! So we caught the 6:30 ferry back to Mackinac City and decided to find a hotel - we ended up at a Days Inn which wasn't the nicest one we've stayed in, but it wasn't too bad. The kids really liked the pool:) Jason didn't go swimming since he had a headache:( We ate dinner at O'Reilly's Irish Pub which was pretty good:)

Wednesday morning, it was very overcast & thunderstorm warnings. We were pretty sad, but figured we'd see if we could do some more things before the rain came. We went to the lighthouse, but had to wait alittle bit to go up in the tower since they close it when it's lightning. Then we headed to the Mill Creek where we had the most fun:) It was so nice walking around in the woods and checking out the mill:) Brett was our tour guide on this, too;) He explained how the mill worked:) After we finished there, we went back across the bridge and headed to Sault St. Marie to check out the Soo Locks. They were pretty cool:) We had to use a parking meter which we haven't seen in years and the kids asked lots of questions about them since they had NEVER seen them before!! Anyway, the locks were pretty cool, but very slow:( The kids & I were pooped out but Jason wanted to check some other things out on the way home, but we had no energy:( so we went home:)
